On the 27th of April, The British Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Business Development Group, hosted a very successful cocktail-networking event at the Club de Industriales Auditorium & Terrace: “Eyes on the UK-Eyes on Mexico”.
The evening began with an animated presentation by Chris Sladen- Former BritChaM President, current President of the Energy Group and President & General Director of BP Mexico- who gave insights from his experience both as a British businessman, as well as a President of a British company in Mexico.
Chris Sladen remarked that business opportunities are more successful nowadays, due to the new reforms. He also pointed out that learning to merge with the Mexican culture and adaptability to the environment and the workplace is key, along with the topicalization of the business. For example, Castrol which is an oil brand from BP, has been very successful in the Mexican market thanks to their targeted and adapted marketing.
Moreover, Chris mentioned that patience, perseverance and consistency are crucial to achieving success. He exemplified this by saying that BP only just opened their first petrol station, despite being established in Mexico for around 50 years* . This petrol station has been very rewarding and has become a success story for BP.
Chris stressed the importance of belonging to a community or being part of a robust organisation, which will facilitate engaging with key contacts and nourish important relationships, helping you achieve your objectives as a company.
The presentation was very relaxed and friendly with all eyes on Mexico, a country with an abundance of opportunities. After Chris Sladen’s presentation, attendees gathered at the terrace to enjoy Mexican wines and canapés among friends, Members of the Board, and new BritChaM members.
We wish to thank the Business Development Group for their support and especially Global BMT and Santistevan Abogados for their kind help and sponsorship of the networking-cocktail. Please stay tuned for more such events coming soon.
